Bookkeeping matters because every business decision depends on accurate numbers. Without clean records, you can’t tell if you’re actually profitable or just busy. That gap turns risky at tax time, when the IRS or FTB looks back years. A misclassified contractor or missed 1099 can turn into real penalties later. Reconciled books also catch billing errors and cash leaks before they grow. In short, bookkeeping is what turns activity into real financial understanding.

ClearBook Co team is doing a great job doing somewhat complicated bookkeeping for my clinic. Being overseas has not been an issue with us meeting and taking care of whatever comes up with my accounting. They are extremely polite, flexible and Knowledgeable. I'll let you know they aren't getting the job done, but for now they’re my guy!

Clearbook Co. supports small businesses across Los Angeles County, from Silicon Beach tech startups to Hollywood production companies. Unlike many general accounting firms in Los Angeles, CA, we focus exclusively on the day-to-day bookkeeping and compliance work that keeps your business audit-ready – not tax season alone.
We track California Franchise Tax Board filings and LA gross receipts tax classifications precisely.
Your books close by the same date every month, always ahead of every BTRC renewal.
Bookkeeping, payroll, and CFO-level insight for growing businesses across all of Los Angeles County.
California’s Franchise Tax Board requires every LLC to pay an $800 minimum franchise tax annually, even with zero income. If that payment is missed, the FTB can suspend your business and freeze its bank accounts. Accurate, up-to-date bookkeeping helps you stay compliant, meet filing deadlines, and avoid costly penalties.
Every LA business needs a city Business Tax Registration Certificate and accurate state records.
As LA's entertainment and gig economy grows, mixed 1099 and loan-out records get complicated fast.
Late invoices and slow receivables can leave a growing business short on working capital.
Banks, SBA lenders, and investors all require clean, reconciled financial statements.
Different revenue levels need different support. We built three tiers so you only pay for what you need.
Transaction categorization, bank reconciliation, and month-end close keep your records accurate.
Our CFO advisory service delivers custom KPI dashboards and budget variance reports for growth-stage owners.
Your dedicated payroll specialist runs payroll, withholds taxes, and files Form 941 quarterly.
Professional bookkeeping support that scales as your Los Angeles business grows.
We reconcile every QuickBooks or Xero account to your bank statements monthly.
We categorize every transaction into your chart of accounts, GAAP-compliant.
One dedicated senior bookkeeper owns your books, reachable when you need them.
You get a P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statement, CPA-ready every month.
From restaurant sales tax to production residuals, we set up your chart of accounts to match how your specific industry actually operates.

LA’s Business Tax, CDTFA filings, and worker classification each carry their own penalty risk. Five specific mistakes cause most of it.
The City of Los Angeles requires an annual Business Tax renewal, due March 2, based on the prior year’s gross receipts. Filing late brings real penalties, even for businesses claiming the small business exemption.
The city requires every business to file a renewal, even with zero revenue for the year. Businesses under $100,000 in gross receipts can qualify for an exemption, but only if they file the renewal to claim it.
LA’s Business Tax is based on gross receipts, not profit. A business can owe city tax in a loss year, since the calculation never looks at expenses the way federal income tax does.
California sales tax filing frequency depends on revenue: monthly, quarterly, or annually. Bookkeepers who don’t track the assigned schedule miss deposits, and the CDTFA charges penalties and interest on late payments.
California uses the ABC test, which is stricter than the federal worker classification rules. By default, a worker is considered an employee unless your business can prove all three parts of the test. Misclassifying workers can result in back taxes, penalties, and other state compliance issues.

A look at how years of disorganized records became books a CPA could audit — the same standard behind the bookkeeping work we do for Los Angeles businesses.
A mid-sized entertainment and media production company with a team of 10 to 100 people. Activity had built up across the books over several years, and the records had never been organized to a standard anyone outside the business could sit down and review.
An IRS notice arrived, and the owner needed five years of financial records ready for professional review. The transactions existed, but they weren't categorized or reconciled in a way a CPA could work from, so the response couldn't move forward.
We worked back through the full five-year backlog, categorizing transactions, reconciling accounts, and cleaning up the supporting records behind each entry. The catch-up work was finished in two weeks, and the books were handed over in a condition a CPA could audit directly.
The CPA completed the audit from those records, and the IRS matter was resolved. The client rated the engagement five stars and moved onto a monthly bookkeeping engagement, so the books now stay current instead of building back into a backlog.
Every transaction is documented accurately, leaving no gaps an auditor could challenge.

We review your last three months of transactions and identify what requires correction. You receive a clear summary of the findings, with no obligation to proceed.
We’ve answered the questions LA business owners ask us most, so you can decide with confidence.
Most Los Angeles small businesses have to pay $300 to $1,500 per month. The exact cost depends on transaction volume, industry, and whether payroll or sales tax reporting is included.
The California Franchise Tax Board (FTB) collects state taxes, including the annual $800 franchise tax for most LLCs. The Los Angeles Office of Finance administers the city’s business tax and registration requirements. You must comply with both, as they are separate agencies with separate filing and payment obligations.
